DAY 8: Oneness With God: The Original Place We Belong
Reading Matthew 22-24
Welcome to Day Eight! I know I keep saying it over and over (but that’s intentional)—this month’s theme is reestablishing the normal.
This is exactly what Jesus is doing in today’s reading: Matthew chapters 22–24.
We start with one of the most familiar questions in Scripture: “What is the greatest commandment in the Law?”And Jesus answers with clarity and power: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” This isn’t just a lofty spiritual goal. It’s the normal way life should function.
It’s the origin point for us as sons and daughters of God .When we identify with God fully—with our hearts, minds, and souls—we return to the place of oneness that was always meant to define us.
Remember this: When Jesus called God His Father, people got upset. Why? Because calling God Father meant oneness—it placed Him in the same family as God. But that’s the point.
We’re being called back to that same family. To that same oneness with God. It’s not a stretch. It’s not extraordinary. It’s our normal place.
Later, they try to trap Jesus with a question about tribute money: “Whose image is on this coin?”
“Caesar’s,” they said.
And Jesus answers: “Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
What’s He really saying? He’s reminding us who we belong to. Whose image we bear. Who we look like. Who we’re one with.
We were made in God’s image—and that makes us equal with Him as His children.
In chapter 23, Jesus calls out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders. They were so focused on rules and burdens—trying to force people into a certain way of living—yet they neglected the most important thing: Oneness with God. They missed the normal, true, and original place from which life flows.
As you read Matthew 22–24 today, let this sink in: This isn’t about striving or performing. It’s about returning—returning to God, returning to oneness, returning to the normalcy of life as His sons and daughters.
