DAY 7: Humility is the Norm
Reading Matthew 19-21
Welcome to Day Seven! Remember, our focus for the month is reestablishing the norm. We are rediscovering how Jesus shows us the true normalcy in being one with God.
What stood out to me in this reading day of Matthew 19-21 is how strongly Jesus points us back to humility as the norm. Humility is not a special virtue. It’s not an extra layer of greatness you achieve by trying harder. It’s not something reserved for spiritual elites.
Humility is who we are. It’s the origin place—the foundation we’re meant to live from as children of God.
Across these three chapters, we see it over and over again:
A man calls Jesus “good,” and He replies: “Don’t call me good. There’s none good but One, and that is God.”
Two disciples ask if they can sit at His right and left hand. Jesus clears up their misunderstanding about greatness and what it means to be first in God’s Kingdom.
Later, religious leaders question His authority: “By what authority are you doing these works?” Jesus responds by asking them a question that exposes their hearts. And when they refuse to answer, He says:“Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these works.” He didn’t have to prove Himself. He let the works speak for themselves.
Every act Jesus performed came from a place of humility. When we understand this properly, humility becomes the catalyst for recognizing oneness with God. It’s not something we strive for—it’s the normal way of living for those who know their origin. Humility says: “I am already one with God. I don’t have to prove it to anyone.”
As you read Matthew 19–21 today, notice how humility threads through every conversation and action. This isn’t about trying to be “more humble.”
It’s about seeing humility as your native state—the true normal of life in God.Enjoy today’s reading.
