DAY 3: Healing, Miracles, and a Return to God’s Original Intent
Reading Matthew 7-9
Welcome to Day Three! This month’s theme continues: reestablishing the norm.
Today’s Reading: Matthew 7-9
Reestablishing Society
It’s the normal thing to be judgmental. It’s normal to point out what someone else is doing wrong, or what they aren’t doing right. It’s normal to critique the changes others are making in their lives.
In chapter 7, Jesus says: “Judge not, that you be not judged.” He challenges us to behold the beam that’s in our own eye before we even think about the speck in our brother’s eye. If we could all make this our way of life—examining ourselves first—the normalcy of success and a healthy society would naturally take shape. But because we don’t, living this way seems extraordinary. It feels like a rare virtue.
In reality, it’s not. This is the norm that Jesus is bringing back to us.
Reestablishing Healing and Miracles
As we move into chapters 8 and 9, Jesus begins performing healings and miracles. We often get so excited when we read these stories—and rightly so—but for this cycle, I want you to approach these moments differently. See them not as extraordinary. Not as the exception. But as the inception—the beginning of what should be our mindset and perspective on how things were meant to be.
When you see Jesus healing lepers or restoring sight to the blind, recognize this:
He is reestablishing the norm.
Think about it: Seeing is a normal occurrence for humanity. Blindness is the abnormal. So when Jesus heals someone’s blindness, He’s not performing some out-of-this-world miracle. He’s simply bringing things back to their original design.
The same goes for skin conditions like leprosy. Health is the norm. Disease is the abnormal. When He heals, He’s restoring what was always meant to be. When we recognize this—when we realize Jesus is reestablishing everything back to God’s normal—it shifts our thinking. We understand: “Oh… we can do the same thing.” Why? Because we’re not trying to create something new. We’re simply partnering with God to bring things back to His original and normal intent for humanity.
As you read Matthew 7–9 today, keep this month’s theme in mind: reestablishing the norm. Notice how the miracles—the healings, the restorations—are actually just bringing life back to God’s intended normal. Enjoy today’s reading.
