DAY 24: Born Again and Back to Normal
Reading John 2-4
Welcome to Day 24 of the Red30 Reading Cycle.
Today’s reading is John chapters 2 through 4, and we continue with this month’s theme: Reestablishing the Norm.
In John chapter 2, we see what’s often viewed as a spectacular miracle—Jesus turning water into wine.
But when we keep the theme of normalizing in mind, what we really see is that Jesus didn’t create something new—He simply sped up a process that already exists.
Wine is made from grapes. Grapes grow through water.
So water is the foundation of wine already. Jesus just accelerated the natural progression.
In chapter 3, Nicodemus comes to Jesus and acknowledges that what Jesus is doing must be from God.
Jesus responds with what many call a “mystery”:
You must be born again.
But when viewed through the lens of reestablishing the norm, this isn’t a mystery at all.
If you want to start fresh—if you want to build something new—you’ve got to begin from square one.
Being born again isn’t mystical.
It’s the only normal way to lay a new foundation.
Then in chapter 4, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well—someone culturally off-limits for conversation.
Yet, He talks with her, discerns her life, and gives her this truth:
If you drink this physical water, you’ll thirst again. But if you drink the water I give, you’ll never thirst.
He wasn’t just talking about hydration—He was talking about identity.
Drinking the water He offers means drinking from your true self—
the understanding that you are one with God.
Once you drink from that well,
You’ll never again operate from a mindset of separation again.
Enjoy today’s reading.
