DAY 16: About Our Father's Business
Reading Luke 2-4
Welcome back! Today is Day 16, and the reading is Luke chapters 2–4.
Chapter 2 tells the story of Jesus’ birth. But between chapters 2 and 3, there’s only one set of red words—and it’s a moment that stands out.
Jesus, as a young boy in the temple, says: “Why were you looking for Me? Didn’t you know I must be about My Father’s business?” This ties perfectly into our theme of reestablishing the norm. It reminds us that we are here on assignment. We were sent here to do a job—and we must be about it.
Many times, being committed to the will of God or living on mission is seen as something extraordinary. It’s admired as a grand virtue or treated like a rare, special calling. But in truth, this isn’t something reserved for a few. It’s not over the top.
It’s the natural way of life—the original intention of God for all of us.
It’s almost as if Jesus was surprised when His parents came searching for Him. Their concern was natural, of course—they were looking for their child. But Jesus responds as though this should have been obvious: “Didn’t you know I would be about My Father’s business?” In other words, shouldn’t we all know this is what we’re supposed to be doing—consistently?
Chapter 3 outlines the lineage of Jesus, grounding His identity and His mission. Then, in chapter 4, He steps fully into His assignment. In verse 18, He reads from the book of Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…” But then He makes it personal: “Today, this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” This shifts everything. He’s no longer just reading the Word—He is the Word, living and breathing it.
This is what it looks like to return to the norm: Not just talking about the Word. Not just reading the Word. But being the Word—an example of God’s will alive in the flesh.
It’s time to move beyond religious routines and surface-level activities. To step into true oneness with God. To live sent—fully about our Father’s business.
